Supporters

Our campaign has been fortunate to receive support from Democrats, Republicans and Independents in the Fourth Congressional District and across the state. In fact, more than 1400 individuals from across the political spectrum have invested in our campaign. I am especially pleased that our entire Democratic delegation representing Colorado in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives have rallied behind our campaign!

  • Governor Bill Ritter, Jr.  who has known Betsy for several years has thrown his support behind her campaign;  “Betsy Markey has the common sense and the character to be a voice of reason in Washington,” Governor Ritter said.  “As a small-business owner and public servant, Betsy has shown that she has the pragmatism and independence to get the job done. She has her priorities straight, and will bring Colorado common sense back to Washington. Betsy Markey is the right person for the job.”
  • Senator Ken Salazar, who Betsy worked for over a 2 1/2 year period of time as his Regional Director for Northern Colorado quoted  "I do not know anyone who understands the people and the issues in the 4th Congressional District better than Betsy. Her ties to the business community and ability to relate to farmers, ranchers and everyone she meets enables her to see solutions where few can. The people of the 4th Congressional District will be well served by Betsy."
  • Rep. Diana DeGette, the senior member of Colorado's House Delegation, said, "Betsy Markey will provide a strong voice for Colorado families whose needs have been long ignored by Marilyn Musgrave's misguided agenda. She has my full support, and I look forward to serving in Congress with her."
  • Rep. Mark Udall noted that "As a small businesswoman, Betsy knows the value of a dollar and will work to rein in government spending and lower the tax burden on our families. She understands the needs and concerns of Colorado in the Fourth Congressional District, and will work tirelessly on their behalf."
  • Rep. John Salazar commented, "Betsy Markey will bring to Congress a voice that understands the needs of rural Coloradans, and will fight tirelessly for the hard working families, farmers, and the agricultural communities that desperately want and need to be heard."
  • Rep. Ed Perlmutter remarked, "Betsy's commitment to the people of Colorado runs deep, and her experience as a public servant and business owner will serve our state well. I know Betsy Markey will be a strong fighter for the unique needs of the 4th Congressional District and a strong advocate for western values."

I would like to thank the following friends and colleagues for publicly endorsing me in my campaign for Congress.

  • State Senator Bob Bacon
  • Stan Matsunaka, former State Senate President and CD4 candidate
  • Peggy Reeves, former State Senator
  • State Representative John Kefalas
  • Bryan Jameson,  former State Representative
  • Bernie Strom, former State Representative
  • Pam Shaddock, Greeley City Council Member
  • ML Johnson, Poudre School District Board Member
  • John Gascoyne, former Larimer County Democratic Party Chair
  • Char McDaniel, former Larimer County Democratic Party Chair
  • Allison Cortner, Executive Director, Southern Colorado Economic Development District

There are few people I’ve worked with who are as principled as Betsy or as good at setting and meeting goals. She’ll be an effective Representative for this district and I’m excited that she is in the race.

Stan Matsunaka
Former Colorado Senate President and Congressional candidate

I think she has a varied background that will be very helpful to someone who will represent us in the 4th CD. She has a business background and has experience in Washington, D.C. and has done good work for the people in the district.

Former State Senator Peggy Reeves

I have known Betsy for many years from when she was the county chair. I think she has a superb grasp on the issues, she is a friend, an associate and I believe she will do marvelously.

State Senator Bob Bacon

It is no accident that Betsy has been successful at everything she does. She works hard and knows how to get things done.

Allison Cortner
Executive Director of Southern Colorado Economic Development District

Betsy Markey served with great distinction as the first director of computer security policy at the U.S. Department of State. She was a pioneer in the development and interpretation of computer security policies for the State Department’s information systems located throughout the world.  Betsy quickly impressed her co-workers and other State Department managers with her intelligence, her grasp of complex issues, and her ability to work with others to achieve results.

F. Lynn McNulty Former Director
Office of Information Systems Security
U.S. Department of State

Betsy worked for me in her first job after college as a staff assistant for a subcommittee in the U.S. Congress. Even then, she was smart, hard-working, principled, focused, and understood how values should drive public policy. I am pleased that as I have watched her career and her private life ever since then, she has been consistent in her values and her actions. I can't think of anyone who would be a more effective first term representatives for the people of Colorado.
